Drowsiness and blurred vision taking Gabapentin was the reason for my telephone visit on 5/11/23. I originally spoke with Pamela B. when I called McMullen’s clinic at 1:57 PM. I explained that I drive for a living and that I was extremely tired and was having blurry vision.
I see on this medical record, that McMullen added a response at 8:20 PM the day I called in. McMullen actually put in this medical record that blurry vision on such a low dose was “unusual”. She put has PT tried at bedtime? and added that another option would be to try Cymbalta 30mg daily at dinnertime.
Nurse Kayla H called me back on 5/12/23 and I told her that I didn’t take the Gabapentin that day or the previous day and I was still feeling bad. So it looks like I told her that I would try it again at nighttime.
FAST FORWARD to NOW 2026…
Remember: On 5/8/23 I was given a prescription for:
- naproxen (NAPROSYN) 500 mg tablet, Take 1 tablet (500 mg total) by mouth 2 (two) times per day if needed for mild pain (1-3) (pain)., IM NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE NSAIDS.
- gabapentin (NEURONTIN) 300 mg capsule, Take 1 capsule (300 mg) by mouth at bedtime. Gradually increase to 3 times a day as tolerated
Could this be an adverse reaction to the NSAIDS? APPPARENTLY MCMULLEN DIDNT THINK SO.
I did call my trusted primary care provider for help and this is the help I received.
Texas Texas Medical Board doesn’t think this falls below the standard of care. I guess all of the Medical Board doctors to the same to their patients. It’s completely acceptable and within the standards of patient care.
Continued Medication Is As Listed
- sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim 800-160 mg per tabletCommonly known as: Bactrim, Take 1 tablet by mouth 1 (one) time each day. To prevent boils.
- gabapentin (NEURONTIN) 300 mg capsule, Take 1 capsule (300 mg) by mouth at bedtime. Gradually increase to 3 times a day as tolerated.
- naproxen (NAPROSYN) 500 mg tablet, Take 1 tablet (500 mg total) by mouth 2 (two) times per day if needed for mild pain (1-3) (pain)., IM NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION ITS IN MY MEDICAL RECORDS 1/31/23
- clotrimazole (LOTRIMIN) 1 % cream; Apply topically 2 (two) times per day.
- Calcium Carbonate (Tums) 500 mg chewable tablet, Take 1 tablet (500 mg total) by mouth 1 (one) time each day.
- pantoprazole (PROTONIX) 40 mg EC tablet, TAKE 1 TABLET BY MOUTH 1 TIME EACH DAY.,
On This Day 5/11/23 I had Been Taking Pantoprazole NON – STOP For:
- 1 years 3 months 3 days
- or 15 months 3 days = Fed Goverment recommends 2 MONTHS
- or 65 weeks 2 days = Food And Drug Administration recommends 8 WEEKS
- or 457 days = FDA suggested time is 56 DAYS
Pantoprazole treatment time supposed to be in 8 WEEK cycles. The FDA warns of serious negative side effects if the drug is taken for long periods of time. Doctors are SUPPOSED to monitor patients regularly and watch for the KNOWN SIDE EFFECTS. MCMULLEN DIDNT THINK I NEEDED TO BE MONITORED FOR SIDE EFFECTS. So I almost DIED. BUT that’s ok because its within the limits of standard medical care set by the Texas Medical Board.

Medical Billing For This Telephone Visit:
I checked my medical bills through UT Health East Texas / Ardent Health and I didn’t see any bills from this telephone visit.
Unfortunately I don’t have access to my Ambetter Health Insurance claims from that far back to verify. Good news is that I am getting closer to the time period that I had full access to my health insurance EOB, so I will be able to verify every item charged.
